Mumbai’s Gen Z in numbers
The University of Mumbai has roughly 800 affiliated colleges across the metropolitan region, which puts well over 700,000 students between Churchgate and Kalyan. Add IIT Bombay, TISS, NMIMS, VJTI and the autonomous colleges of South Mumbai and Vile Parle, plus the first-jobber crowd in BKC, Lower Parel and Andheri, and Mumbai is the most commercially valuable Gen Z market in the country.
It is also the hardest city to fake. Mumbai Gen Z has seen every launch, every celebrity endorsement and every “limited drop”. What works is proximity: a stall outside Mithibai during Kshitij, a creator who actually eats at the Matunga canteens, a sampling route that follows the Western line from Churchgate to Borivali.
Where Mumbai’s 18 to 26 year olds actually are
Mumbai is three student belts strung along two railway lines. South Mumbai has St. Xavier’s, Jai Hind, HR, KC, Sophia and Wilson, with Colaba Causeway, Marine Drive and Kala Ghoda as the hangouts. The Matunga and Dadar stretch has Ruia, Podar and VJTI, with Five Gardens and the Matunga canteens as meeting points. Vile Parle and Andheri hold Mithibai, NM, NMIMS and DJ Sanghvi, feeding Juhu, Lokhandwala and Versova. Then there is Powai: IIT Bombay and Hiranandani, where Mood Indigo and Techfest pull some of the largest student crowds in India every December.
Off campus, Bandra’s Hill Road and Carter Road, Phoenix Palladium in Lower Parel and the Fort cafes are where Mumbai Gen Z shoots content. The city also has the densest working Gen Z population in India: analysts, designers, junior agency staff and OTT crews in Andheri West and BKC. A Mumbai plan has to cover both the student and the first-jobber, usually on the same train.

Why brands pick us in Mumbai
Mumbai is where the client sits and where the audience is, which makes it the city where brands most often ask for proof. The team behind GenZ Marketing has run Mumbai work for Flipkart, Starbucks, Lenskart, EatSure and Bombay Shaving Company, and we bring a network of 10K+ colleges, 100K+ campus ambassadors and 50K+ Gen Z creators to every brief. Our Mumbai leads know which South Mumbai colleges want a written proposal a month out and which Vile Parle colleges will say yes over a phone call.
Mumbai pairs naturally with Pune, which shares its creators and its hostel crowd three hours down the expressway, and with Ahmedabad for a western India rollout. If you are choosing a Gen Z marketing agency for a Maharashtra launch, read our guide to Gen Z marketing first, then brief us for Mumbai.
